Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about 3-4 medium)
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples and cranberries.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour the sugar mixture over the fruit and toss gently to coat.
  5. Transfer the fruit mixture to a 9-inch pie plate or an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  6. In a separate medium bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt.
  7. Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients.
  8. Using a pastry blender, your fingertips, or a fork, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  9. Evenly sprinkle the crumb topping over the fruit mixture.
  10. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbly.
  11. Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
  • If using frozen cranberries, do not thaw them before adding to the fruit mixture.
  • Feel free to add a handful of chopped pecans or walnuts to the crisp topping for added texture.
