Make this easy hot fudge pie for a rich, warm dessert with a texture similar to a dense brownie. It is simple to prepare and serves well with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made 9-inch deep dish pie crust
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the pie crust on a baking sheet.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove the pan from the heat.
  3. Stir the chopped unsweetened chocolate into the melted butter until completely smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
  5. Add the sugar mixture to the chocolate mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Whisk the eggs and vanilla extract together in a small bowl. Slowly mix the egg mixture into the chocolate batter until smooth. Do not overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle the nuts over the top if you are using them.
  8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. The edges should look set, but the center will still look soft and gooey, like a brownie.
  9. Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
  10. Serve the pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality unsweetened chocolate.
  • If you prefer a firmer texture, bake the pie for an additional 5 to 7 minutes.
  • You can substitute the pre-made crust with a homemade shortcrust pastry.
