Make a superior pizza sauce in under five minutes using only pantry staples. This no-cook recipe delivers fresh flavor instantly for your next pizza night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes (preferably San Marzano)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drain the whole peeled tomatoes slightly, reserving a small amount of the liquid.
  2. Place the tomatoes, olive oil, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and optional minced garlic into a food processor or blender.
  3. Pulse the mixture 4 to 6 times until you reach a slightly chunky, yet smooth consistency. Do not over-process; you want some texture remaining.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or pepper as needed.
  5. Use immediately on your pizza dough.

Notes

  • For a New York style sauce, use slightly less olive oil and add a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
  • If you prefer a very smooth sauce, blend for a few extra seconds.
  • If you have time, let the sauce rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before using to allow the flavors to meld.
