Make sweet, crunchy candied pecans quickly on the stovetop using a simple cinnamon sugar glaze. These are great for snacking or topping salads.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a medium non-stick skillet.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and begins to bubble.
  3. Add the pecan halves to the skillet. Stir continuously to coat the pecans evenly with the sugar mixture.
  4. Continue cooking and stirring for 5 to 7 minutes. The sugar mixture will crystallize and then melt again, coating the nuts. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  5. When the sugar coating looks clear and glossy around the nuts, remove the skillet from the heat immediately.
  6. Spread the coated pecans in a single layer onto a sheet of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  7. Separate the nuts quickly with a fork before they cool and stick together completely.
  8. Let the pecans cool completely until they are hard and crunchy, about 20 minutes.

Notes

  • For a crispier texture, you can bake the coated pecans on a baking sheet at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes after coating, then cool them on parchment paper.
  • Store cooled candied pecans in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • You can substitute brown sugar for granulated sugar for a slightly deeper flavor.
