Ingredients
Scale
1 loaf (1 pound) of crusty bread (like sourdough or Italian)
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
Using a sharp knife, cut the bread into 1-inch cubes, making sure not to cut all the way through the bottom crust. You want the cubes to remain attached at the base.
In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. This is your flavor base.
Carefully drizzle the seasoned butter mixture all over the bread, working it down into the crevices between the cuts.
Generously stuff the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses deep into the cuts throughout the loaf. Don’t be shy with the cheese!
Wrap the entire loaf tightly in aluminum foil.
Bake for 20 minutes wrapped in foil. This steams the bread slightly and melts the cheese.
Carefully unwrap the foil. Return the bread to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden brown on top.
Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving. Tell everyone to pull a piece apart and enjoy the cheesy strings!
Notes
Use a bread with a sturdy crust to hold up to the filling.
You can add a sprinkle of fresh parsley over the top before serving for color.
If you like a little heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the butter mixture.
