Ingredients
Scale
1 pound fresh strawberries, washed and completely dried
10 ounces good quality melting chocolate (milk, dark, or semi-sweet)
1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother dipping)
1/4 cup white chocolate chips (for drizzling or dipping variation)
1 tablespoon sprinkles, chopped nuts, or crushed cookies (optional toppings)
Instructions
Prepare the strawberries: Gently wash the strawberries and pat them completely dry with paper towels. Moisture prevents the chocolate from sticking. Leave the green stems on for easy handling.
Melt the chocolate: Place the main chocolate (milk or dark) in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until smooth. If using, stir in the coconut oil or shortening for a thinner consistency.
Dip the strawberries: Hold a strawberry by the stem end. Dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat about three-quarters of the berry. Lift the berry out, allowing excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
Add toppings (optional): Immediately after dipping, sprinkle on your desired toppings before the chocolate sets.
Set the chocolate: Place the dipped strawberries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
Prepare white chocolate (optional): If using white chocolate, melt it separately using the same method as step 2. Drizzle it over the set dark chocolate using a fork or a piping bag.
Chill: Allow the chocolate covered strawberries to set completely at room temperature for about 20 minutes, or place them in the refrigerator for 10 minutes until the chocolate is firm.
Notes
The most important step is ensuring your strawberries are completely dry before dipping; any water will cause the chocolate to seize or separate.
Use high-quality melting wafers or chocolate bars for the best flavor and glossiest finish.
If the chocolate becomes too thick while working, reheat it briefly in the microwave.
For a professional look, use a fork to gently tap the bottom of the dipped berry against the side of the bowl to remove large drips before setting.
