Ingredients
Scale
1 cup rolled oats
1 tablespoon chia seeds
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
1 scoop (about 20g) chocolate protein powder (optional, for high protein oats)
1 cup milk (dairy or dairy free option like almond milk)
1/4 cup Greek yogurt (or dairy-free yogurt alternative)
1-2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips (optional topping)
Instructions
In a jar or container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, and protein powder if you are using it. Mix the dry ingredients well.
Add the milk, Greek yogurt, maple syrup (or honey), vanilla extract, and salt to the container.
Stir or shake the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined and there are no dry clumps remaining.
Place the lid on the container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the oats and chia seeds to absorb the liquid and become creamy.
In the morning, check the consistency. If the oats are too thick, stir in a splash more milk until you reach your desired creamy overnight oats texture.
Top with mini chocolate chips or your favorite toppings before eating. This is a quick grab and go meal.
Notes
For a dairy free overnight oats version, use a plant-based milk like almond or soy milk and ensure your yogurt is dairy-free.
If you want a richer, brownie batter oats flavor, increase the cocoa powder to 3 tablespoons.
This recipe is great for meal prep oatmeal; you can prepare 3-4 jars at once for the week.
For chocolate peanut butter oats, add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter when mixing the wet ingredients.
