These Cider Braised Pork Ribs cook down until they are wonderfully tender, falling right off the bone. The apple cider creates a flavorful, slightly sweet sauce perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs Pork Spare Ribs
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 cups Apple Cider
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Season the pork ribs generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  4. Sear the ribs on all sides until nicely browned. Remove the ribs and set them aside.
  5. Add the chopped onion to the Dutch oven and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  7. Pour in the apple cider, chicken broth, and apple cider vinegar. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
  8. Stir in the brown sugar. Bring the liquid to a simmer.
  9. Return the seared ribs to the Dutch oven, making sure they are mostly submerged in the liquid.
  10. Cover the Dutch oven tightly with a lid.
  11. Transfer the pot to the preheated oven and bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the ribs are very tender.
  12. Remove the ribs carefully. You can reduce the remaining liquid on the stovetop if you prefer a thicker sauce.
  13. Serve the ribs with the braising liquid spooned over top.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a sprig of fresh rosemary or thyme to the braising liquid.
  • If you like a deeper color on the ribs, you can briefly broil them after braising.
  • This recipe works well with bone-in country-style ribs too.
