Make a superior dipping sauce for seafood in minutes using basic pantry ingredients. Adjust the horseradish to control the spice level.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup prepared horseradish (drained)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (or more, to taste)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the ketchup, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce in a small bowl.
  2. Stir all ingredients together until completely mixed.
  3. Taste the sauce. Add a pinch of salt if needed.
  4. If you prefer a stronger horseradish flavor or more heat, add more horseradish or hot sauce, one half teaspoon at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Cover the sauce and chill in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

Notes

  • For a smoother sauce, use creamy horseradish instead of prepared white horseradish, but the flavor will be milder.
  • This sauce tastes best when made at least one hour ahead of serving.
  • You can substitute the lemon juice with lime juice for a slightly different tang.
