Ingredients
Scale
1 block (8 oz) halloumi cheese
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon olive oil (for tossing)
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more, to taste)
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cut the block of halloumi into fry shapes, about 1/2 inch thick and 3 inches long. Pat them very dry with paper towels. This step helps with crispiness.
Set up a standard breading station: Place flour mixed with salt and pepper in one shallow dish. Place the beaten egg in a second dish. Place panko breadcrumbs in a third dish.
Dredge each halloumi fry first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Then dip it completely in the egg. Finally, press firmly into the panko breadcrumbs, coating all sides.
Place the coated fries on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray or brush the tops of the fries with olive oil.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
While the fries bake, prepare the hot honey. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, red pepper flakes, and apple cider vinegar. Heat over low heat until just warm and combined, about 2 minutes. Do not boil.
Remove the crispy halloumi fries from the oven. Arrange them on a serving platter.
Drizzle the warm hot honey generously over the fries immediately before serving.
Notes
For extra crispiness, you can air fry the coated halloumi at 375°F for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
If you prefer a thicker glaze, let the honey mixture cool slightly before drizzling.
You can substitute the apple cider vinegar with lemon juice for a slightly brighter flavor in the drizzle.
