Ingredients
Scale
8 crescent roll dough triangles
2 medium apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and quartered
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
Peel, core, and quarter the apples. Place one apple quarter in the center of each crescent roll triangle.
Roll the dough around the apple piece, sealing the edges tightly to form a dumpling shape. Place the sealed dumplings seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
In a small saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture simmers. Cook for 2 minutes.
Remove the syrup from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Pour the hot brown sugar syrup evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Let the dumplings cool slightly before serving warm, spooning extra syrup over each one.
Notes
Serve these warm dumplings immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the best experience.
If you do not have crescent rolls, you can use puff pastry cut into squares.
