Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 ounces) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (for cooking)
  • Optional: Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu: Press the tofu well to remove excess water. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Whisk together the glaze: In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Mix until the honey dissolves.
  3. Cook the tofu: Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and slightly crispy on all sides.
  4. Glaze the tofu: Pour the prepared honey soy sauce over the cooked tofu in the skillet.
  5. Toss gently: Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats every piece of tofu evenly. Be careful not to burn the honey.
  6. Serve immediately: Remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired. Serve over rice or with your favorite vegetables.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu is key for the best texture. You want it firm!
  • Adjust the honey to your taste; add more for sweetness or a splash more vinegar for tang.
  • This tofu tastes great served warm or at room temperature.
