Make this easy, flavorful iced tea lemonade by combining tart hibiscus tea, sweet strawberries, and bright lemonade for a perfect summer cooler.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers (or 4 hibiscus tea bags)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water, for dilution
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the hibiscus concentrate: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat, add the dried hibiscus flowers or tea bags, and steep for 10 minutes. Strain the liquid into a pitcher and discard the solids. Let the concentrate cool completely.
  2. Prepare the strawberry element: In a small saucepan, combine the strawberries and sugar with 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the strawberries soften (about 5-7 minutes). Mash the strawberries lightly with a fork.
  3. Strain the strawberry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a small bowl, pressing on the solids to extract the syrup. Discard the solids. Let the strawberry syrup cool.
  4. Assemble the drink: In a large pitcher, combine the cooled hibiscus concentrate, the strawberry syrup, and the fresh lemon juice. Stir well.
  5. Dilute the mixture: Add 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stir again. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness if needed.
  6. Serve immediately over plenty of ice cubes. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice.

Notes

  • For a stronger strawberry flavor, you can muddle 1 cup of fresh strawberries directly into the lemon juice instead of making a syrup.
  • If you prefer a less tart drink, reduce the lemon juice by 1/4 cup and add an extra 1/4 cup of water during dilution.
  • You can substitute the granulated sugar with your preferred sweetener when making the strawberry syrup.
