Make decadent pecan pie brownies easily by combining a fudgy box mix base with a sweet, gooey pecan pie topping. These layered bars are perfect for holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (about 18.3 oz) fudge brownie mix
  • Ingredients listed on the brownie mix box (usually eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional, for salted topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. Prepare the brownie batter according to the package directions, substituting any required water with a small amount of milk if you prefer a richer texture. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, melted butter, corn syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Stir in the chopped pecans and salt (if using) into the wet mixture until they are evenly coated.
  5. Pour the pecan pie topping mixture evenly over the prepared brownie batter in the pan. Do not stir the layers together.
  6. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes. The brownies are done when the edges are set and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter.
  7. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment overhang.
  8. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For an extra fudgy texture, reduce the liquid called for on the box mix by 2 tablespoons.
  • If you want a salted caramel flavor, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the pecan topping immediately after removing the pan from the oven.
  • Cool the brownies completely, preferably chilling them for an hour, before slicing for the cleanest cuts.
