Ingredients
Scale
12 large white mushrooms
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons pizza sauce
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch of salt
Pinch of black pepper
2 tablespoons finely chopped pepperoni (optional)
Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Gently wipe the mushroom caps clean. Remove the stems and finely chop the stems. Set the caps aside.
In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Stir in the chopped mushroom stems and pepperoni, if using.
Spoon the mixture evenly into the hollowed mushroom caps, mounding the filling slightly.
Place the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the cheese is bubbly and lightly golden.
Garnish with fresh basil before serving immediately.
Notes
If you prefer a richer flavor, you can add a small amount of Parmesan cheese to the filling mixture.
Wipe the mushrooms clean instead of washing them to prevent them from absorbing too much water.
You can prepare the filling up to a day ahead and store it covered in the refrigerator.
