A recipe for a highly savory and crunchy snack mix featuring Chex cereal coated in a rich garlic butter seasoning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 cups Chex cereal (rice, corn, or wheat mix)
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (like pecans or almonds)
  • 1 cup pretzel twists or sticks
  • 1 cup bagel chips
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a very large bowl, combine the Chex cereal, nuts, pretzels, and bagel chips. Set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper, if using. Mix until well combined.
  4. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the cereal mixture. Gently stir with a large rubber spatula until all the cereal pieces are lightly coated. Work slowly to prevent breaking the cereal.
  5. Spread the coated mixture in a thin, even layer onto the prepared baking sheets. Do not overlap pieces.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and gently stir the mix. Return to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the mix cool completely on the baking sheets. The mix will crisp up as it cools.
  8. Store the cooled mix in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, bake the mix for an additional 10 minutes at the end, stirring halfway through the total baking time.
  • You can substitute the nuts with an extra cup of cereal or pretzels if you need a nut-free version.
  • To increase the garlic flavor, add 1 teaspoon of dried minced garlic to the butter mixture.
