Ingredients
Scale
1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 tablespoon water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Press the tofu well to remove excess water, then cut it into bite-sized nugget shapes.
In a medium bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
Spread the coated tofu in a single layer on the prepared sheet pan. Drizzle with olive oil and toss gently to coat.
Bake for 20 minutes, flipping the nuggets halfway through, until they start to become golden brown and firm.
While the tofu bakes, prepare the sauce: In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, and water. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until the honey dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly, about 3 minutes. Do not boil.
Remove the sheet pan from the oven. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the partially cooked tofu nuggets. Toss gently right on the pan to coat every piece.
Return the sheet pan to the oven and bake for another 8 to 10 minutes, or until the glaze is sticky and caramelized.
Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
Notes
Pressing the tofu for at least 30 minutes is key to achieving a crispy texture.
For extra crispiness, you can bake the tofu plain for 10 minutes before adding the cornstarch coating.
Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions before serving.
