This is a quick and flavorful Shrimp and Broccoli Stir Fry recipe, perfect for a weeknight meal. Sasha brings her intuitive, energetic style to this simple dish featuring garlic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil (like canola or vegetable)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for thickening)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Set this sauce aside.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the hot oil. Stir quickly for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  4. Add the broccoli florets to the skillet. Stir fry for 3 to 4 minutes until the broccoli turns bright green and is slightly tender-crisp.
  5. Add the shrimp to the skillet. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the shrimp turns pink and opaque.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the shrimp and broccoli. Stir everything together quickly. The sauce will thicken almost immediately.
  7. Cook for one final minute. Taste and add red pepper flakes now if you want extra heat.
  8. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Sasha suggests tasting as you go; if you like it bolder, add a splash more soy sauce right at the end.
  • If you prefer softer broccoli, you can steam it for 2 minutes before adding it to the stir fry.
  • Fresh ginger makes a big difference here, so try not to skip it.
