Welcome the festive season with this Spiced Cranberry Sangria. This recipe, brought to you by Anya, is perfect for your next holiday party. It combines the tartness of cranberries with warm spices for a truly celebratory drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine
  • 1 cup cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Ice for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, cranberry juice, brandy, and orange liqueur.
  2. Add the sliced orange, fresh or frozen cranberries, cinnamon sticks, and star anise to the pitcher.
  3. If you prefer a sweeter sangria, stir in the sugar until dissolved.
  4. Stir all ingredients gently to combine.
  5. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. When ready to serve, stir the sangria again.
  7. Serve over ice, making sure each glass gets some fruit and spices.

Notes

  • You can substitute brandy with dark rum for a slightly different flavor profile.
  • If you use frozen cranberries, they will help chill the drink further.
  • Taste the sangria before adding sugar; the sweetness of your wine and juice will affect the final result.
  • Anya suggests using a medium-bodied red wine like Merlot or Zinfandel.
