Make a flavorful spicy crab sushi bowl at home without rolling. This recipe uses seasoned rice, imitation crab mixed with spicy mayo, and fresh vegetables for a quick, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces imitation crab meat (kani), shredded
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 large avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 English cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sushi rice: In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the warm cooked rice. Let the rice cool slightly.
  2. Make the spicy crab mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded imitation crab, mayonnaise, sriracha, sesame oil, and soy sauce. Mix until everything is well combined and creamy.
  3. Assemble the bowls: Divide the seasoned rice evenly among serving bowls.
  4. Layer the toppings: Arrange the spicy crab mixture, sliced avocado, and sliced cucumber over the rice in separate sections.
  5. Garnish: Sprinkle the top of the bowls with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, lightly toast the imitation crab meat under a broiler for two minutes before mixing it into the sauce.
  • You can prepare the rice and the spicy crab mixture ahead of time for quick assembly later.
  • Use less sriracha for a milder flavor or add more chili garlic sauce for extra heat.
