Enjoy this moist and rich Tres Leches Bread Pudding, a comforting Latin-inspired dessert that brings together creamy sweetness and soft bread. Sasha created this recipe from our shared kitchen adventures.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (about 1 pound) stale bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Optional: Toasted coconut or chopped nuts for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and heavy cream until smooth.
  5. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all the bread soaks up the liquid. Gently press down on the bread if needed.
  6. Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour, allowing the bread to fully absorb the liquid. This step is key for a moist pudding!
  7. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the pudding is set in the center and lightly golden brown on top.
  8. Remove from the oven. If using, sprinkle with toasted coconut or nuts while still warm.
  9. Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving. You can serve it warm or chilled.

Notes

  • Using slightly stale bread works best as it absorbs the liquid better without becoming mushy.
  • Feel free to add a dash of rum or brandy to the milk mixture for an adult twist.
  • This dessert is even better the next day after the flavors have melded.
