A recipe for soft cinnamon rolls soaked in a sweet, creamy three-milk mixture for extra moisture and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12.4 ounces) refrigerated cinnamon roll dough
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the refrigerated dough package. Place the cinnamon rolls into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Bake the rolls according to the package directions until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  3. While the rolls bake, prepare the Tres Leches soak. In a medium bowl, whisk together the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream until fully combined.
  4. Once the rolls are out of the oven, immediately poke holes all over the tops of the warm rolls using a fork or skewer. Do this about 10 to 15 times per roll.
  5. Slowly pour the milk mixture evenly over the warm rolls, allowing the liquid to soak into the holes. Let the rolls sit for at least 20 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  6. Prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, softened cream cheese, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add a teaspoon of water or milk if the glaze is too thick.
  7. Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the soaked cinnamon rolls before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For best results, use warm rolls when applying the milk soak; the heat helps the rolls absorb the liquid better.
  • If you prefer a thinner glaze, add more liquid to the glaze mixture one teaspoon at a time.
  • You can make the milk soak ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator.
